Employee at Walmart in Burlington tests positive for COVID-19

Walmart Supercentre on Fairview Street in Burlington has confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Fairview Street location, which also features a grocery component, released a statement on April 22nd explaining that the positive employee last worked in the store six week ago, and that the store remains open to customers who continue to shop for essential needs.

Walmart expresses that is has contacted local public health for consultation, and undergone enhanced measures to maintain the sanitation of its shopping centre to ensure the safest environment for both employees and guests.

The massive superstore chain has done its part to adjust operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, including introducing special shopping hours specifically for vulnerable and senior-aged citizens, increased cleaning and sanitation procedures, and the implementation of social distancing protocol within the stores.

The news follows similar announcements of positive COVID-19 cases among local frontline essential workers in the world of grocery and retail, including employees at Shoppers Drug Mart and No Frills locations in Hamilton.
