Free parking in downtown Burlington ends today

Free parking in downtown Burlington ends today, August 4th, and the city will be resuming fees for on-street and municipal parking lots.

Over the last few months, parking in downtown Burlington was free as a response to the reduced numbers of those travelling to the area.

But, the city says that they have started to see increased numbers of municipal parking as the city continues into Stage 3 of the reopening plan.

Parking demand is expected to continue to grow after the city reviewed data and feedback from the public that parking is increasing to similar numbers to before the COVID-19 shutdown.

“As our community begins to enjoy more activities with Stage 3 reopening, we’ve seen an increase in parking demand and desire to manage supply and revenues,” said Burlington mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

The mayor also mentioned that there’s ongoing discussions about reinstating 20-minute curb-side pickup times to regular parking.

People parking in downtown Burlington are being encouraged to use the HONK mobile app in order to reduce the amount of contact with roadside machines.

Burlington entered Stage 3 of reopening on July 24th. The city has also been expanding patios of restaurants and bars in order to offer a solution to an increased demand to people dining out in the area.
