Two days after local public health declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at SpinCo Hamilton, another 8 confirmed coronavirus cases have been linked to the fitness studio, bringing the current total to 11 confirmed cases.
The outbreak was officially declared on October 5th at SpinCo’s studio on James Street North when 3 individuals – including one staff member and two patrons – were found to test positive for COVID-19. The additional 8 cases were confirmed yesterday and today.

The news prompted SpinCo to temporarily suspend classes and carry out a thorough cleaning and sanitation of their facilities before reopening to the public once again.
Though the studio had originally intended to reopen on October 8th, a message posted to SpinCo’s Instagram stories explains that the studio will remain closed for the next 14 days out of an abundance of caution.
“This afternoon we have received clear direction from Public Health and those that could have potentially been affected have been notified,” says SpinCo in their message as they stress that the studio has been vigilant in its health & safety protocols.
“We are proud to have gone beyond Public Health expectations by sending communication to the whole SpinCo community and we hope by doing this we did not instil undue concern for the majority of you.”
Hamilton confirmed 24 new COVID-19 cases in the city on Thursday, bringing the current total of known active cases to 122. However, with delays in testing in the city and province-wide, there is a chance these results are a low count.
