Beloved Hamilton fish & chips spot has permanently closed

A Hamilton favourite for fish & chips has turned off the fryers and permanently closed its doors.

Ray’s Galley Fish & Chips, located in West Hamilton at 1831 Main Street West, opened in 2019 in the former home of Lighthouse Fish & Chips, where it quickly became one of the city’s most popular spots for classic, comforting fish & chips and other seafood dishes.

After cultivating a loyal customer base over the past three years, Ray’s Galley has sadly closed up as the shop’s owner plans to move into a different phase of his career.

“Food preparation is one of the most rewarding ventures I’ve ever done and will miss it along with all our regulars who came to our restaurant,” wrote Ray in a post on Facebook.

“Life throws a lot of curve balls and this is one of them. I have been given the opportunity to go from food preparation to food production. To me, that seemed the final chapter to my journey and I’m very excited to take on the challenge.”

The announcement was met with bittersweet well-wishes from fans of Ray’s Galley, who will miss this standout fish & chip shop in the west end.
