The closure, in place to facilitate construction work, went into place on December 28th, 2022 with pedestrian and cyclist pathways closed. The closure of the road itself went into effect on January 5th, 2023.

All of those access points will remain closed until at least March 20th, 2023, according to a release from the Government of Canada.
The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge closes annually through the winter to allow time and space for annual maintenance, repairs of the bridge’s operating systems, and measures to help ensure the bridge remains operational and safe for the public.
Detour signs are also in place to help direct traffic to alternative routes in the meantime, and the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) has adjusted service on its Route 11 Parkdale bus, which will detour via Eastport Drive after servicing Beach Boulevard, then travelling over the Skyway Bridge to North Shore.
