As demand for postal service intensifies leading up to the holiday season, approximately 55,000 Canada Post workers have officially gone on nationwide strike as of Friday, November 15th at 12:01 am.
A release from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) explains that the strike comes after a 72-hour strike notice was issued to Canada Post due to unresolved issues including wage increases in line with inflation, addition of 10 paid medical days on top of 7 paid personal days, improvements to group benefits plans, and improved protections against technological change.

“Our demands are reasonable: fair wages, safe working conditions, the right to retire with dignity, and the expansion of services at the public post office,” reads the release from the CUPW.
“Postal workers are proud to serve their communities, and we want to do the job we love. A strike is a last resort. We still believe we can achieve negotiated collective agreements, but Canada Post must be willing to resolve our new and outstanding issues.”
Mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered for the duration of the strike. Those making use of Canada Post for mailing and shipments are advised to expect delays and disruptions while this strike action is in effect.
