Look after workers.
Grow the economy.
Create more prosperity.
It’s an increase of $1.10 per hour in a move the feds say is intended to help make life more affordable for the roughly 26,000 Canadian workers who earn less than the current rate.
“The cost of living is rising, so we’re making sure that wages keep going up too,” said Minister of Labour Seamus O’Regan Jr.
“We’re looking after workers, because that’s how you grow the economy and create more prosperity for everyone.”
Federally regulated private-sector employers will be required to adjust their payroll information in line with the new rate as of April 1st.
The new federal minimum wage applies to federally regulated private sectors including banks; postal services; and interprovincial air, rail, and marine transportation.
