In a year that has seen increased awareness of – and considerable uprising against – systemic racism in many forms, one of Hamilton’s craft breweries is taking steps to remove persistent industry barriers for those from Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, and queer communities.
Collective Arts Brewing has announced the inaugural Collective Arts Brewing Scholarship, specifically intended to provide funds to folks from marginalized communities who intend to study in the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program at Niagara College.
With this $2,000 award, Collective Arts joins other Ontario craft breweries including Bench Brewing in Beamsville, Dominion City Brewing in Ottawa, and Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto who are offering similar scholarships for marginalized students from communities historically underrepresented in the beer industry.
“At Collective Arts, we are on a mission to make the world a better place,” said Collective Arts Brewing in an announcement.
“We believe that creativity can inspire and help do that. We also believe that creativity can not live without diversity.”
This fantastic scholarship initiative will help provided a much-needed access point for students of brewing who face systemic barriers in trying to advance within the education system and their industry.
