GO Transit suspends most service in Hamilton amid COVID-19

Doing their part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Metrolinx has temporarily and significantly reduced GO Transit train and bus service in the Hamilton and Niagara area, impacting multiple bus routes and stopping just short of entirely cancelling others.

In fact, the heavily-used Toronto-bound Route 16 GO Bus has been reduced down to just one trip per day, departing from Hamilton just after midnight at 12:30 am until further notice.

Though this temporary schedule change impacts countless commuters, those who still need to commute into Toronto can switch to boarding the Lakeshore West GO Train at Aldershot Station, itself running on a revised schedule. A bus connection from Hamilton GO Station to Aldershot is available.

While local risk still remains low, the reduction of GO Transit service is intended to play a role in encouraging social distancing during the rapid global spread of the novel coronavirus disease, of which a confirmed 5 positive cases have been found and self-isolated in the Hamilton-Halton area.

Multiple city programs, restaurants, bars, performance venues, and other non-essential services have reduced service or outright closed temporarily in an attempt to help slow or halt the spread of the highly contagious virus during this unpredictable global pandemic.

Hamiltonians and beyond are highly encouraged to avoid public spaces, social gatherings, and non-essential travel as much as possible; continue proper hygiene practices such as frequent thorough handwashing; and staying home when feeling sick.
