Hamilton’s Greek food scene just lost a standout fixture.
Souvlocke Greek Taverna, a terrific spot for flavourful, modern Greek dishes located along the Locke Street Strip, announced last week that – after an extended, indefinite break – the cozy restaurant won’t be reopening its doors after all.
“Almost exactly three years ago we flung open the doors to this new restaurant and set out to bring you something relaxed, contemporary and delicious,” wrote the restaurant on social media. “We hope we succeeded, and we loved sharing it with you. It’s now time for us to wrap up Souvlocke and move on to other projects.”
In just three short years, Souvlocke had readily built a strong local fanbase who kept coming back for a taste of the restaurant’s modern Greek dishes like souvlaki platters, spanakopita, and numerous other delicious meat and seafood dishes with Greek-style accompaniments.
Though the restaurant will be deeply missed, their former space won’t be empty for long; Souvlocke also shared news that they’ve sold the restaurant space to another established local spot, Peruviano, who will be swiftly moving into the Locke Street restaurant space and leaving their current home at 355 Main Street East.
Peruviano has become well known for their authentic Peruvian and Italian dishes, and this well-loved food spot with undoubtedly flourish in its new home in the Locke Street community; which they plan to formally open in just a few weeks!
