Grotto Getaway Glamping offers an idyllic escape from Hamilton

‘Glamping’ – a portmanteau of glamorous and camping – has become a rising trend in recent years, particularly for those who love the serenity of the great outdoors but don’t necessarily like the idea of completely roughing it.

Among the Hamilton-born businesses responding to this trend is Grotto Getaway Glamping: an Ontario glamping experience that takes visitors from the stimuli of city life to the gorgeous harbour town area around Tobermory in the heart of the Bruce Peninsula.

Headed by a team of owners Zac Willms, Andrew Hines, Jacob Campagnero, and Mike Cordeiro  – with Willms and Campagnero both based in Hamilton – Grotto Getaway offers unique glamping sites with spacious tents and campers that are luxurious and attractively designed while thrusting you into beautiful Ontario nature and all it has to offer.

Located within the 21-year-old Maple Ridge Family Campground in Miller Lake, Ontario – just over three and a half hours outside of Hamilton – Grotto Getaway currently consists of five diverse accommodations, all of which offer different camping experiences to suit a variety of needs.

“We decided to take over the traditional campground and brought the idea of having a section in the 90-acre land with a more luxury glamping experience,” the company tells us.

Two spacious RV accommodations on site are perfect for those who don’t especially love the idea of tent-style camping. One of them has a more old-school vibe with original design and furnishings, and the other is a newly renovated accommodation with more modern interior finishes.

Both sleep up to 4 guests and have their own dedicated spaces out front on the campgrounds, including picnic tables, Muskoka chairs, and firepits perfect for socializing with a few drinks or roasting marshmallows after dark.

The glamping accommodations that are arguably the most unique, though, are the large and attractively designed bell tents that go well beyond what a standard tent typically offers.

You won’t be snuggling into sleeping bags on the hard ground in these sleepers; they come furnished with luxury Queen-sized beds perfect for up to two people, and some judicious decorative touches that are aesthetically pleasing and minimalist.

Shower stalls and bathrooms are nearby and – like the RVs – these accommodations also come with Muskoka chairs and personal fire pits outside, along with plenty of privacy, to help cap off your nights on a relaxing note.

But Grotto Getaway knows that the main draw of staying out in the great outdoors is, well, getting to enjoy the great outdoors. While the glamping tents are a cozy and luxurious way to get a good night’s rest after long days of exploring, they’re also surrounded by the stunning views, parks, trails, waters, and natural excursions the Tobermory and Grotto regions have to offer.

With summer approaching and vacation plans already being made, it’s easy to see Grotto Getaway Glamping becoming a popular destination for folks in Hamilton and beyond who want to escape to somewhere idyllic for a spell; to disconnect, and to rejuvenate while taking in fresh parts of Ontario nature just a few hours outside of bustling city life.
