Sometimes, nature is the best medicine; and a new initiative launched in the Halton region is taking that idea to the next level.
Conservation Halton has announced a new partnership with Halton Healthcare and a national program called PaRx which allows for nature prescriptions through medical institutions.
As of December 2nd, 2024, those issued a PaRx nature prescription can gain access to any of Conservation Halton’s parks for up to 10 visits free of charge to take in the health benefits of anything from scenic hikes to nature photography to wildlife spotting.
“This partnership with PaRx provides greater access to nature and creates pathways to better health and a deeper connection with our environment” says Chandra Sharma, President & CEO of Conservation Halton in a release.
“This initiative exemplifies our dual commitment to ecological preservation and community well-being.”
PaRx is an initiative launched by the BC Parks Foundation that allows healthcare providers to formally prescribe nature as therapeutic or preventative care, based on wide-ranging evidence that shows nature’s impact on personal health and wellness.
Halton Healthcare is Canada’s first hospital system to partner with PaRx, with other regions sure to follow.
