Hamilton artist Stephen Ingram drops his debut pop album

Catchy pop hooks and playful, poetic, vulnerable lyricism permeate Fridge Magnet Symphony, the debut album release from Hamilton-born singer-songwriter Stephen Ingram

Born and raised in Hamilton, Ingram is no stranger to the Hammer’s performing arts scene – some locals will surely recognize him from numerous productions at Theatre Aquarius – and his first full-length record is an eclectic, buoyant collection of original songs.

Dropping on streaming platforms this Friday, May 12th, Fridge Magnet Symphony is sure to be a standout 2023 release for Hamilton’s music scene. From the jaunty folk waltz of For Erasing to the raucous rock of Howling at the Moon or the ebullient, soaring chorus of the eponymous ear-worm, the album offers a grab bag of tunes that traverse style and genre without losing cohesion.

A common thread of this track list is one of creative influence and homage; Ingram makes it clear that his song-writing style owes much to other beloved artists who paved the way.

“One of my composition teachers once said to me ‘Good artists borrow, great artists steal,’ and while obviously, he meant that a bit jokingly, reflecting on that idea … this album was me realizing that my love and veneration for the music of other brilliant artists isn’t actually a crutch, it’s one of my greatest strengths as a songwriter,” says Ingram.

Fridge Magnet Symphony is released on all major streaming platforms this Friday, May 12th.
