Hamilton’s largest civic awards recognizing excellence in the city’s arts scene have announced their shortlist of nominees for 2023.
The City of Hamilton Arts Awards are an annual tradition celebrating the robust local arts & culture scene, from theatre to music to fine craft to visual art and beyond.
The awards are broken up into three main categories: the Arts Champion Award, given to an outstanding supporter of Hamilton’s arts scene; the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to an established artist to recognize a full career’s worth of achievements; and the Creator Award, which is given to multiple shortlisted artists.
The nominees for the Arts Champion Award are Chris Pannell, Helen Graham, Jessica Vinluan, Luis Pereira, Matt Moreland, and Natasha Jones. The Lifetime Achievement Award nominees are Al Croxall, John Terpstra, Judith Sandiford and Ron Weihs, Lorraine Segato, and Robert ‘Bob’ Daniels.
The Creator Award shortlist includes artists working in myriad disciplines: 2win Dunx, Alexander Notarangelo, Andre Bisson, Angela DeMontigny, Anuja Varghese, Chasing Shadows Productions, Cine-Psych Filmmaking Team, Darren Stewart Jones, David Collier, Deepti Gupta, Diana Panton, Goddess, Jojo Chooi-Harley, Kaime Sherman, Kareem-Anthony Ferreira, Katherine MacDonald, Lyla Miklos, Myke Hutchings, Nathan Eugene Carson, Open Heart Arts, Piper & Carson, Piper Hayes, Sarah Sproule, Selena Middleton, Sean Procyk, Sid Ryan Eilers, Sonali Menezes, Steacy Easton, Hamilton Youth Steel Orchestra, and Vick Naresh.
