As the promise of snowfall approaches Hamilton, the city is bringing back a fun initiative to help give local snow plows some fun and unique names.
‘Name the Plow’ is back for 2025 following two previous years of asking locals to submit their best funny, clever, and creative name suggestions.
From there, a committee narrows down a shortlist of 20 submitted names and opens them up to the public to vote on their favourites. Ultimately, 10 of those names will be chosen and officially added to the exterior of 10 Hamilton snow plows hitting the streets this winter.
NAME THE PLOW is back, #HamOnt! This is your opportunity to help us name 10 additional snow clearing vehicles this season. Submit your creative, family-friendly suggestions on #EngageHamilton by December 15: https://t.co/7q7EmQmfE8 pic.twitter.com/HwN1tT5lOS

Past years of Name the Plow winners include clever ones like Snowmoni Lawrence, Say It Ain’t Snow, Plowabunga, Taylor Drift, CTRL-SALT-DELETE, Clearopathra, Icekee Wee Wee, Max Kermanator, and Better Call Salt.
Locals can submit their 2025 name ideas between now and December 15th at engage.hamilton.ca/nametheplow, and a shortlist of submissions will be shared for public voting from December 19th to January 5th.
