If you’re a Hamilton public transit user hopping on an HSR bus in order to connect to a GO Transit vehicle, your HSR trip will soon be free of charge.
Beginning on March 14th, Hamilton’s transit riders who use a PRESTO card to pay their fare will receive their local transit ride for free when leaving or coming into Hamilton on a GO train or bus.
The government of Ontario is making transit more affordable through a series of initiatives set to take effect on March 14. For example, riders connecting to or from GO Transit on 12 municipal transit systems will see their local fares reduced to zero. https://t.co/O21gwlRjth pic.twitter.com/hBwZsxrg8n

It’s part of a new initiative started by the Ontario government with select municipal transit agencies including Hamilton, Burlington, Guelph, Milton, Brampton, Barrie, and other cities with local transit infrastructures.
According to a release from the province, Hamilton transit users who commute jointly on HSR and GO Transit for three return trips per week would see an annual savings of around $218.40 in fare costs.
Of course, PRESTO users already receive a noteworthy savings on fare by tapping their card rather than paying their fare by other means.
