Good news for the local lovebirds who want to keep their marriage simple and straightforward: the city has officially announced that Hamilton City Hall will now be offering non-religious marriage ceremonies and vow renewals.
This is a landmark moment for Hamiltonians, as it will be the first time this service has ever been available in the city, catching Hamilton up to other neighbouring municipalities already offering civil marriage ceremonies.

The announcement, issued this past Thursday February 27th, indicates that these civil marriage services will begin to be offered in Hamilton City Hall’s Council Chambers starting on April 6th, available by appointment only Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The fee for the full civil marriage ceremony is $339.00 including HST, and a renewal of vows will cost $56.50 including HST.
On top of that, couples are required to bring along two witnesses of at least 14 years of age to be present at the ceremony. If that presents a barrier, city-provided witnesses are also available at a cost of $28.25 including HST per witness.
