One of Hamilton’s most popular spots for delicious donuts has announced that it is closing its doors.
Donut Monster has been a local favourite since its humble beginnings a decade ago producing small-batch donuts in creative flavours and supplying them to coffee shops around the city.
As their reputation and demand grew, so did Donut Monster. They eventually opened an attractive café on Locke Street where lineups were not uncommon, with locals eager to get their hands on massive mainstay and seasonal donuts like vanilla bean, sarsaparilla, maple pecan, Nanaimo bar, kimchi fritters, and more.
Sadly, after ten years serving the city, Donut Monster has freshly shared the news that their last day in business will be Sunday, April 20th.
“Struggling to dig ourselves out of a combined series of hard situations has been slowly digging us deeper into an even more difficult one,” writes Donut Monster in a post on social media. “The decision to close is truly heartbreaking and comes with substantial cost.”
Owners Reuben and Heidi also share their hopes that a business purchase or other creative arrangement can keep this Hamilton favourite alive for more years to come. Those who may be interested are invited to email reuben@donutmonster.ca.
“Many of the challenges that led to this decision are possible to overcome through a reorganization and new ownership,” they write. “Donut Monster still has many core strengths, and we’d be happy to discuss them in more detail.”
