Hamilton-born foil fencer Eleanor Harvey took home a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and made history in the process.
The 29-year-old athlete made Hamilton – and all of Canada – proud by earning the country’s second medal in this year’s Olympic games, which also happens to be the first-ever medal for Canada’s fencing program.
Harvey’s emotional win is another milestone in an impressive career, including becoming the first Canadian women’s foil athlete to win a Fédération Internationale d’Escrime (FIE) Grand Prix medal in Shanghai in 2018.
Her Olympic career began at the Rio 2016 Olympics where she finished in 7th place in Individual Foil Fencing. She subsequently competed in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, placing 5th in Team Foil and 16th in Individual Foil.
Huge congratulations to this talented Hamiltonian on her historic win!
