Hamilton food spot Maria’s Tortas Jalisco reopens after flood

One of Hamilton’s most beloved spots for flavourful Mexican cuisine has finally reopened for business after a flood damaged their new location.

Maria’s Tortas Jalisco, a Stoney Creek staple, had only recently moved into its new home at 438 Highway 8, Unit #1 when the flood caused a major setback at the end of December 2022, damaging the restaurant and even leaving it without electricity.

“It took sweat, tears and sacrifice with our own hands as we designed, painted and renovated our new location,” wrote Maria’s Tortas Jalisco in a social media post.

“We worked so hard in trying to get it ready to provide better service for all of our wonderful customers. We were super excited to finally open our doors and only really started to begin a little taste of what we had planned. And not even two months in, then this happened.”

After tons of community support and a successful GoFundMe campaign to help offset expenses related to the damage, the restaurant quickly got to work on restoring the restaurant.

Now, weeks later, Maria’s Tortas Jalisco is reopen to the public and ready to serve up their famous tacos, burritos, enchiladas, birria, and so much more. Go show them some love and grab some food, Hamilton!
