The City of Hamilton has launched an initiative to provide free HSR bus tickets to those in need of a space to cool down during heat events.
During heat warnings throughout the summer, the City is offering 2,000 complimentary bus tickets to residents looking to stay cool while temperatures are at levels that can affect health.
1,000 tickets are available through select recreation centres and outdoor pools across Hamilton, and the other 1,000 will be handed out by community partner agencies. Locals who want to claim a free ticket will be limited to two ticket per person per visit.
It’s part of the city’s Heat Response Strategy, which seeks to help Hamilton residents gain access to cool places during heatwaves: events that are becoming more frequent each summer.
Lists of recreation centres and public pools that are offering the free HSR bus tickets during heat events are available at Hamilton.ca/heat.
On top of accessing HSR buses to stay cool, the city also offers multiple cool places during heat events including recreation centres, libraries, and other partnered community spaces.
