In a spot of good news amid so much uncertainty, Hamilton is currently seeing no institutional outbreaks of COVID-19 for the first time in three months.
With multiple outbreaks at care facilities and healthcare centres reported in Hamilton since COVID-19 began spreading in the city back in March, the city’s final outstanding outbreak – at Hamilton General Hospital – was officially declared over this past Wednesday.

The outbreak at Hamilton General Hospital saw 10 total staff members in the hospital’s COVID-19 unit testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
Hamilton’s first documented COVID-19 outbreak occurred on March 21st, after multiple residents at Heritage Green Nursing Home tested positive.
A few other local outbreaks followed, the most aggressive being the outbreak at Rosslyn Retirement Residence which saw a considerable 64 residents and 22 members of staff test positive. Of those numbers, 14 residents have died due to complications from the virus.
Hamilton currently has 751 total confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, with 595 cases considered resolved and 42 total deaths.
