The City of Hamilton is giving away free trees and shrubs to residents to plant on their private properties.
This annual initiative allows locals to claim free trees and shrubs in species native to the area in an effort to improve air quality, combat climate change, and increase property value.
The tree and shrub varietals available include Sugar Maple, Blue Beech, Eastern White Pine, Serviceberry, American Witch-Hazel, Red Maple, Chinquapin Oak, Tulip Tree, and Northern Bush Honeysuckle.
Locals who want to claim a tree are allowed one per property and must present a valid driver’s license or property tax bill upon pickup. Trees will be approximately 0.5 to 1 metre tall, and homeowners are responsible for planting, watering, and maintaining their tree.
Two tree pickup locations have been set: Bayfront Park from 8 am to 12 pm on April 26th, May 10th, and May 31st; and Mohawk College’s Parking Lot P1 from 8 am to 12 pm on May 3rd and May 24th.
Hamilton residents who would like a tree must pre-register for their pickup by visiting the city website.
