Hamilton is moving back into COVID-19 lockdown

The predictions have come true: Hamilton is headed back into the grey ‘lockdown’ zone of the province’s COVID-19 reopening framework.

As of Monday March 29th at 12:01 am, Hamilton will be forced back into the grey as new cases of COVID-19 continue to trend upwards in the city.

“Decisions were made in consultation with the local medical officers of health and are based on the trends in public health indicators and local context and conditions,” reads a release from the province.

With numerous restrictions tightening as a result of the move to lockdown, Hamilton’s restaurants and bars – which were just granted the ability to open their indoor dining rooms to 50 per cent capacity or up to 50 patrons – will be forced to close their dining rooms once again.

However, with the provincial government’s new revisions to the grey zone, restaurants will still be permitted to continue service via outdoor dining, provided proper physical distancing can be maintained and all tables only feature guests living in the same household together.

The Ontario government also announced some new adjustments made to the grey zone restrictions, including the allowance for hairdressers, nail salons, and tattoo parlours to reopen under a maximum of 25 per cent capacity while in ‘lockdown’. These new adjustments will take effect April 12th.

As of the most recent report, Hamilton has 705 known active cases of COVID-19 in the city.

More to come.
