Hamilton issues heat warning as temperatures climb to 30°C

Crank that AC and break out the ice packs, because Hamilton and the surrounding area is seeing its first stretch of hefty heat for 2020.

A heat warning issued by Environment Canada showed that Hamilton can expect high heat and humidity from Monday up to Wednesday, with temperatures consistently hovering around a high of 30 degrees Celsius.

“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” says Environment Canada’s weather update.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.”

Luckily for us, the heatwave is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures forecasted to drop to more comfortable levels again on Thursday, with a cold front relieving the humidity in the Southern Ontario area on Friday.

Weather this nasty is a bummer at any time, but it’s especially jarring in contrast to the recent trend of cold weather the city had been experiencing even as recently as last week. Bits of snowfall here and there, even in April and May, were becoming less of a surprise event.

Hamiltonians can continue receiving updates by checking Environment Canada.
