Got some old ratty mattresses or saggy, stained couches taking up extra space in your house that you just can’t wait to purge from your life?
You’re in luck! Just in time for spring cleaning, the City of Hamilton has launched a pilot project in which locals can use a new online portal to request a home pick-up of bulk items to be trashed.

Previously, locals with bulk garbage too large to fit in their trash receptacles such as old furniture or carpets had to either phone city waste disposal to arrange a scheduled pick-up for that pesky waste, or drive the garbage to one of the city’s waste management facilities.
Now, the process has been expedited with a simple online form that allows locals to enter their address and list the bulk items that will be left for pick-up. From there, a pick-up date will be scheduled on your normal garbage collection day two weeks from the date you submitted the online form.
Eligible items for pick-up include pieces of furniture, mattresses, box springs, and carpets. Materials such as metal, appliances, or hazardous waste are not eligible for the program.
Check out more information and fill out that form on the City of Hamilton website.
