Better late than never, I guess? The Hamilton Public Library (HPL) just received a book return that surely sets a new record for lateness.
The library shared via social media that a member recently returned an overdue copy of Total Fitness in 30 Minutes a Week by Laurence E. Morehouse and Leonard Gross that was uncovered while decluttering their grandparents’ basement.
What happens to a book when it starts to exercise a lot? It gets ripped.
A Member found this overdue book while decluttering his grandparents' basement recently. It was due back on Thursday July 22, 1976. Thanks for returning to our Sherwood Branch! #HamOnt pic.twitter.com/jsFVp4WYJ1— Hamilton PL (@HamiltonLibrary) August 29, 2022
The book was a whopping 46 years overdue, with its original due date set at Thursday, July 22nd of 1976; undoubtedly a book the HPL assumed they’d never see again.
The well-worn book was returned to the library’s Sherwood branch in late August.
Though a book due for almost half a century would have surely amassed a hefty late fee, the Hamilton Public Library notably ended its late fee policy in 2021.
