Hamilton is one step closer to having the insufferable roar and imposing presence of heavy trucks banned from roadways downtown and in surrounding neighbourhoods.
The city’s truck route subcommittee is unanimously supporting a new “ring road” concept that would see trucks larger than four axles banned from the city’s downtown streets like Main, King, Cannon, and Barton unless making local deliveries.

Large transport trucks would instead be required to use Burlington Street as an access point to the local highway network to get onto the QEW, 403, Lincoln Alexander Parkway, or Red Hill Valley Parkway.
If approved by the city’s public works committee and by city council, this change would help cut down on the noise levels, health risks, and physical dangers that heavy trucks pose as they make their way through populated areas of Hamilton’s downtown core and surrounding lower city neighbourhoods.
