Ahead of what is sure to be a challenging fall and winter for spread of COVID-19, Hamilton public health has opened the bivalent vaccine booster to residents ages 12 and up.
Following Health Canada’s approval of Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine, the booster dose has been opened to Hamiltonians ages 12 and up who have received at least two doses prior, with six months since their last dose and no COVID infection within the last three months.
Starting today, Hamiltonians age 12+ are eligible to receive a bivalent COVID-19 booster dose to better protect themselves against COVID-19. The bivalent booster is one that targets two different strains of COVID-19: the original Wuhan strain, and the Omicron BA.5 variant, to provide optimal protection as fall and winter approach and people spend more time indoors.
To book a bivalent booster, locals can visit the online booking portal on the city website or call 905-974-9848, option 7.
Additionally, individuals can check with their local pharmacies and book an appointment with one that offers the bivalent booster dose.
Hamilton public health is also alerting the public that the annual flu shot will be available to the general population beginning on November 1st, 2022 through primary care doctors, public health units, and pharmacies.
