A popular Hamilton pizza spot’s trophy shelf is getting fuller by the year.
MaiPai Tiki Bar – a playful Barton Village restaurant known for exceptional Detroit-style pizzas, cocktails, and more – took home First Prize at the 2025 Restaurants Canada Pizza Competition, where pizzerias from across the country compete with their most creative pies.
The tiki bar has won this competition in two out of three years of involvement, and this latest creation by MaiPai pizza maker Kyle McKay wowed a panel of judges made up of restauranteurs, chefs, and food industry experts.
The winning pizza is called Pompeii and it consists of a harmonious blend of mozzarella, brick cheese, nduja sausage, vodka sauce, arugula, and shaved Pecorino Romano cheese.
If that sounds delicious, you’re in luck: MaiPai is offering Pompeii as their special feature pizza this week so locals can get a taste of the prize-winning pie.
The Hamilton-Burlington-Niagara region showed up strong at the pizza competition for 2025, with Grimsby’s Bitter N Twisted taking home second prize and Burlington’s Son of a Peach Pizzeria claiming third prize.
MaiPai Tiki Bar’s win means the restaurant gains automatic entry into the International Pizza Challenge at the 2026 Pizza Expo in Las Vegas.
