Hamilton proposes brand new citywide HSR route plan

Hamilton had unveiled a proposed overhaul of the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) route network: the first major redesign in more than a century.

The redesigned network was presented by the city’s Public Works Committee at the beginning of April, unveiling a considerably overhauled concept for Hamilton’s existing transit networks that also attempts to optimize efficiency while gracefully factoring in the forthcoming arrival of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system.

“The changes proposed to the route have taken feedback from users over the years into account and will make public transit a better, more connected experience,” wrote Ward 3 city councillor Nrinder Nann on social media.

“Over 13,000 total surveys, conversations and digital engagements sent a clear signal on #HamOnt’s priorities for transit: fast, frequent, reliable and affordable, as well as, better weekend and holiday service that connects the whole city and sees bus stops as a public space!”

A revised map with the proposed network layout has been shared publicly. The next big step will be public consultation, which will then lead to an operational plan devised for approval.

A copy of the HSR “Rail Ready” route map can be viewed here. Read more about the plans on the city website

I have been using HSR since I was a child. In my opinion, (and I have been to different cities and used their Transit) HSR has always been there for me! A lot has improved, and the routes keep growing!
More money should have been invested into our Amazing Transit Services.
What I have complained about, many times is that, the buses should be cleaner. They are a public service after all…and some drivers need attitude adjustments, but in some ways, I do understand why,
But maybe some extra training, like people skills, customer service skills, dealing with irrate customers, anger management just a few examples
You hire Local residents or students or retired people to volunteer!
    Keep up the good work
Thank you for being there for ME
And the Hamiltonians and other people
