A well-loved reptile zoo and nature centre in Hamilton is closing its doors.
Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo & Nature Centre is located at 869 Barton Street East, serving as a centre for animal and reptile rescue, public education, interactive shows, exhibits, and more.
With other locations in Ottawa and Syracuse, Little Ray’s was first established in 2000 and has been making an impact on exotic animal care and research ever since.
Sadly, the Hamilton chapter of Little Ray’s story is coming to a close, with the centre announcing the closure of its Barton Street facility. General admission ends on Monday, April 14th, and the facility will continue with its private tours and offsite programming until end of June.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we understand how deeply this place has touched the lives of many — from your children’s first encounters with wildlife to the countless moments of wonder and learning shared by families, friends, and animal lovers alike,” wrote Little Ray’s in an announcement on their website.
“Little Ray’s will continue to maintain our long-standing involvement in exotic animal rescue through our Ottawa and Syracuse facilities — a mission close to our hearts. On a positive note, through our museum exhibits program, we will be working hard to find a home for one of our temporary exhibits in the greater Hamilton area on an annual basis to ensure our community will have at least seasonal access to our fun, interpretive, educational programming.”
The animals currently in care at Little Ray’s in Hamilton will be sent to the Ottawa and Syracuse locations, while others will be sent to new, appropriate homes.
