Hamilton restaurant with unique subscription model closes its doors

A Hamilton restaurant that tried something different with its menu has permanently closed its doors.
Matamak first opened in summer 2023 at 1065 King Street West in Westdale Village close to McMaster University.
The concept was a unique one: customers would subscribe with a monthly membership rate that would grant them access to meals priced well below the standard for a takeaway meal: think $5 salads, burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, wraps, loaded fries, and much more.
The restaurant was the first of its kind in Hamilton, and ought to have been an appealing approach for the McMaster student crowd who are often eating on a budget.
However, with no formal announcement or warning, Matamak has quietly shuttered, with the King West restaurant dark and the business now listed as ‘Permanently Closed’ on Google.
A reason for the closure has not been made public.
