Sunday was a massive night for the best in Canadian music as the 2022 Juno Awards kicked off in Toronto at Budweiser Stage, with Hamilton’s own beloved band Arkells taking home top honours.
The awards ceremony, hosted by actor Simu Liu of Kim’s Convenience and Shang Chi fame, featured big wins for icons of Canada’s music scene including Shawn Mendes, Haviah Mighty, Deborah Cox, and Charlotte Cardin.
But Hamiltonians were likely most amped up to see our hometown Arkells honoured with Group of the Year for 2022, which was awarded directly after the band took the stage for an energetic opening performance.
Congrats to @arkellsmusic for winning group of the year at the 2022 Juno Awards. They first won this award back in 2012. #JUNOS pic.twitter.com/K9ljrrzTJD

This is hardly the first time the Arkells have received some love from the Juno Awards; in fact, this marks their fifth win for Group of the Year, with previous wins in 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2021.
The big win adds to an already big year for the Hamilton rockers, with the Arkells set to host their massive concert event The Rally this June at Tim Hortons Field, and a new album – Blink Twice – slated for release later in 2022.
