Hamilton saw 14 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the weekend

As the city and province begin to relax certain pandemic restrictions and reopen pieces of the economy, Hamilton reported 14 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.
The news represents a slight increase in the city’s daily recorded cases, which were relatively consistent at around 4 to 5 confirmed each day last week.
Notably, Hamilton was one of a number of Ontario municipalities that was not given the green light to move on to Phase Two of reopening last week, indicating that the city needs to show a more promising reduction of local cases before it can hit the next stage.

This may also mean that some locals are getting lax with physical distancing and not obeying the province’s health and safety guidelines.
In fact, there has been a particular uptick in confirmed cases among Hamiltonians in their twenties, pointing to the possibility that some of the city’s younger residents may not be taking the risks of the pandemic as seriously given the data suggesting that young people are less vulnerable to experiencing severe cases of COVID-19.
That said, with most of Ontario now in Phase Two as of last Friday, it can be assumed that Hamilton may not be too far behind as long as local confirmed cases trend positively.
Locals experiencing possible symptoms of COVID-19, even if they’re mild, are encouraged to get tested at one of Hamilton’s COVID-19 assessment centres.
Hamilton currently has 769 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 616 are considered resolved, and 42 have resulted in deaths.
