Hamilton residents ages 6-12 are currently able to ride on the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) free of charge; and their free PRESTO Cards can now be accessed through the Hamilton Public Library (HPL).
As part of an HSR pilot project, eligible Hamilton youth in this age group will be able to tap their PRESTO Card and ride an HSR bus any time free of charge between now and April 30th, 2023.
Starting today, Friday February 18, children ages 6-12 with a valid HPL library card can get a free @PRESTOcard to travel free on @hsr

To claim the card, any Hamilton Public Library branch can be visited to sign up for a free library card and free PRESTO Card, with each library card sign-up eligible for one free PRESTO Card.
From there, the PRESTO Card can be set up with the child’s date of birth at the HSR Customer Service Centre at 36 Hunter Street East within the Hamilton GO Centre; at City Hall or any Municipal Service Centres in Ancaster, Dundas, or Stoney Creek; or at any Shopper’s Drug Mart or Fortino’s location in Hamilton.
Proof of age must be brought along to complete sign up, such as a birth certificate or passport.
Then, eligible youth can use that PRESTO Card to travel for free on the HSR anytime up to their 13th birthday, at which point the card will have to be changed to a youth PRESTO Card and the current youth bus fare will apply.
