It’s happening! After back-to-back years of pandemic pivots, Hamilton’s famed Around the Bay Race is planning a full-force return in 2022.
Back for its 127th season, the Around the Bay Race will be returning on Sunday, March 27th of 2022, bringing back the excitement of this annual tradition’s in-person 30k race after the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper on the event for two years in a row.
Hamilton's Around the Bay Road Race sets March 27, 2022 for first ‘in person’ race since spring of 2019, writes @miltonatthespec @TheSpec #HamOnt @bayracerun https://t.co/xskbAq87qb

It’ll be the first in-person race since 2019. The race’s 2020 year was initially postponed when the pandemic hit, and later outright cancelled for health & safety reasons; then, the 2021 event adapted by hosting the race virtually, with participants completing the race remotely in their own time.
But nothing will ever replace the excitement of the full event, and 2022’s return is sure to be a particularly exciting year for this annual staple that’s been around for over a century and attracted participants and spectators from well outside of Hamilton’s borders.
That said, for those who want to participate but don’t feel comfortable in large crowds just yet, the Around the Bay Race will still offer a virtual remote option for the race.
Hamilton’s Around the Bay Race, first established in 1894, is the oldest of its kind in North America, even predating the famed Boston Marathon.
