One of Hamilton’s longstanding pubs and nightlife spots appears to have closed its doors, with a new pop-up venture taking its place.
Augusta House, which was a fixture of the Augusta Street pub scene among spots like The Ship, The Winking Judge, and the Pheasant Plucker, hasn’t posted on social media since Spring of 2020; and a visit to its website now redirects you to a page for a new pop-up food offering.
That pop-up is called Smoked: a new project by Unique Restaurant Group that brings even more Southern-style barbecue to Hamilton’s food scene, with other locations in Burlington, Ancaster, and Stoney Creek.
A glance at Smoked’s menu reveals a range of salads, sandwiches, and barbecue platters, with smoked meats like brisket, ribs, chicken wings, and pork belly as the star of the show along with classic sides like slaw, mac ‘n cheese, fries, potato salad, and much more.
What does Smoked bring to Hamilton that the city’s numerous other beloved barbecue spots don’t? That’s truthfully not yet clear. But hey, as long as the food is delicious, what’s the harm?
Smoked is currently offering patio service at 17 Augusta Street, as well as takeout and delivery. It’s not yet clear whether or not this pop-up plans to take up permanent residence in the former Augusta House space.
