Hamilton’s first magic mushroom shop opens, shut down by police

Hamilton just got its first shop specializing in magic mushrooms, but it was quickly shut down by police.

The Mushroom Cabinet, located at 1459 Main Street East, is a shop that offers whole mushrooms; microdose capsules; edibles in the form of chocolate, gummies, and tea; and raw mushroom powders.

However, the shop was hardly into its second day of retail operations when it was shut down by the Hamilton Police Service on Tuesday, December 13th, with two onsite arrests made in relation to the execution of their warrant.

“Hamilton Police remind the public that psilocybin remains a schedule III drug and a restricted substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA),” reads a release from the Hamilton Police.

“The investigation continues with drug investigators along with the Asset Forfeiture Unit. If the owner of the property is found to be connected with the business, the property could be subject to forfeiture and any assets seized.”

Though the physical store is currently closed, The Mushroom Cabinet lists its products online through their website.
