Hamilton’s Grandad’s Donuts will close for renovations end of January

Hamilton donut lovers have a few short weeks to stock up on Walnut Crunches and Ghost Busters before the city’s beloved Grandad’s Donuts closes temporarily for renovations.

A classic, no-nonsense donut staple that regularly sees lineups out the door and sells out of much of its daily stock before the day is done, Grandad’s Donuts is more popular than ever; they even regularly see customers come in from out of town to grab a dozen or two.

It’s a fact that’s prompting the James Street North shop to expand its kitchen and storage capacity in order to more readily meet demand going forward. The shop will close temporarily on January 29th for roughly six to eight weeks in order to complete the necessary renovations.

“We’re aware of our supply issues, and know it’s frustrating to come down in the afternoon and not be able to get what you’d like, and for transparency’s sake, we are making efforts to fix it!” wrote Grandad’s Donuts in a Facebook post last year.

Though locals are surely going to miss Grandad’s Donuts’ iconic offerings like the cherry sticks and apple fritters, the wait will be well worth it. After all, the capacity to make more donuts is never a bad thing!
