MacNab Transit Terminal – Hamilton’s central hub for local HSR bus transit – is about to see a name change.
The terminal at 1 MacNab South between Main and King will change its name to Frank Cooke Transit Terminal, in honour of the former head of the Hamilton Street Railway and notable transit advocate in Hamilton.
No greater champion for Hamilton & for public transit than my Grampa, Frank Cooke Sr. His legacy of community & public service lives on through his many grand children, great grand children & great great grand children! ❤️ #HamOnt https://t.co/KL2RTrF5cm pic.twitter.com/Ga3rzaTAEg

Cooke passed away at the age of 100 back in 2015, which is when the idea of renaming MacNab Terminal to honour him and his 40 years working for the HSR was originally bounced around by city council.
Now, 7 years later, it looks like the name change will finally be underway; much to the delight of his family.
“No greater champion for Hamilton & for public transit than my Grampa, Frank Cooke Sr.,” tweeted Terry Cooke, CEO of the Hamilton Community Foundation and grandson to Frank Cooke.
“His legacy of community & public service lives on through his many grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren!”
MacNab Transit Terminal is a key piece of Hamilton’s public transit infrastructure, serving as an important arrival and departure point for bus routes city-wide.
Originally built in 2011 to replace the Gore Park Bus Terminal, the MacNab facility features 9 bays hosting various bus routes; and a two-storey terminal with washrooms, a dispatch office, a staff lounge, and a climate-controlled waiting area.
Timelines for the formal name change are still to come.
