One of Hamilton’s popular craft breweries has entered a merger with another well-known Ontario brewery.
MERIT Brewing – located at 107 James Street North since 2017 – has long been a local favourite for its modern approaches to craft beer styles like IPAs, sours, saisons, and stouts as well as their delicious menu of sausages and shareable snacks best enjoyed in their spacious beerhall.
Recently, MERIT announced that it is merging with Baysville’s Lake of Bays Brewing, which has been a prominent fixture of Ontario’s craft beer market for over 14 years.
“Over the past 7 years, MERIT has become part of the fabric of the City of Hamilton, through the focus on our Brewery & Taproom on James St. North” says Tej Sandhu, co-founder and CEO of Merit Brewing.
“As our brewery has evolved, we’ve stepped out of our own space and begun introducing our brands across the province. Through this merger, MERIT will be able to continue to grow with the support from the Lake of Bays team that is like-minded in its integrity, values, and vision for craft beer in Ontario.”
A release from Lake of Bays expresses that the Baysville brewery “fully intends on preserving and respecting the brand and its Hamilton roots, while simultaneously growing it to a larger audience.”
MERIT will continue to operate and brew its beer at its James North brewpub.
