Longstanding location of Second Cup closing in Hamilton

A longstanding location of a Canadian coffee chain is closing its doors in Hamilton after 30 years in business.

Second Cup has been a fixture of Westdale Village at 1004 King Street West since first opening in 1995, serving up its menu of coffee, espresso, and tea drinks alongside café bites like pastries.

The relaxed setting proved popular over the past three decades, hosting coffee dates and student study sessions alike thanks to Second Cup’s proximity to McMaster University and Westdale Secondary School.

Now, Second Cup is sharing the sad news that it will be closing up shop on May 31st, precisely 30 years after it brewed its first cups in West Hamilton.

“We are deeply honored to have been an integral part of two generations’ lives, walking alongside Westdale through the passage of time,” wrote Second Cup Westdale in a social media post.

“Whether you were a student rushing to class, a professional focused on work, or old friends catching up, each of you has left behind a unique story here.”

From now until the end of May, locals can enjoy a Happy Hour special on beverages daily from 4 pm to 8 pm. On May 31st, they’ll be bidding farewell with free drinks and snacks.
