Martello Restaurant is opening soon on James North

Another exciting addition to Hamilton’s overflowing Italian food scene is finally set to open its doors on James North.

Martello, the hotly anticipated new Italian restaurant, has finally released a few more details about their forthcoming space near the corner of James North and Barton, which has been in the works for over two years. While a hard date isn’t set yet, Martello foresees the space, which neighbours the newly-established Meanwhile Winebar, opening a mere few weeks from now into February.

Owned by Gaby Gwyn-Newman and her partner Harrison Hennick of NIQUE Restaurant, Martello (which fittingly means ‘Hammer’ in Italian) will offer the gorgeous setting of its lovingly-restored heritage space on the James North strip, including a courtyard and outdoor patio space.

As for the food offerings, Martello endeavours to be more than just a nightlife spot; rather, the space hopes to become an approachable neighbourhood hangout at all times of day, bridging the gap between home and the workplace.

By morning, café style options will be available like coffee and croissants, with all pastries baked fresh onsite. Midafternoon will see pizza available by the slice accompanied by glasses of half-priced wine for a decadent late lunch. Then, by night, Martello breaks out a full menu of fresh pizza and pasta options with an emphasis on keenly balancing quality with affordability.

By all accounts, its seems that Martello knows exactly how it can fit into Hamilton’s food scene with an approach that embraces community, values quality, and strives to be unpretentious; just like the city it sits in.
