M. Night Shyamalan is one of our most iconic living film directors, from landmark films like The Sixth Sense to Unbreakable to Signs.
Now, his latest effort – Trap – has freshly hit theatres worldwide, and Hamilton residents will be thrilled to see a distinct piece of our city prominently featured.
Trap follows Cooper (Josh Hartnett), a father who brings his teenaged daughter to a concert at their local arena. He soon discovers that a sting operation is being set up at the concert to catch a prolific serial killer. That serial killer happens to be him.
It’s a hilariously daffy premise, and though audience reactions are divisive, many are talking about how flat-out entertaining this new Shyamalan thriller is; even as it stretches credulity.
But Hamiltonians who check out Trap will be equally excited to notice that much of the movie was shot inside FirstOntario Centre (formerly Copps Coliseum), with exterior arena shots filmed at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Copps interior is unmistakable, and this high-profile film may be one of the last media documents of the arena as we know it, since it’s now in the process of seeing a significant renovation and facelift.
