Ontario moves into Step One of reopening this Friday

Slightly ahead of schedule amid large drops in new daily COVID-19 cases, Ontario is set to move into stage one of its reopening plan this coming Friday, June 11th.

This comes a tad earlier than the originally set date of Monday, June 14th for a shift into stage one of reopening, with the province having hit key milestones in terms of COVID-19 case numbers as well as rates of vaccination, with over 60 per cent of Ontario adults required to have received at least one dose.

So what does stage one mean for Ontario? In time for the beautiful summery weather, restaurants are now permitted to open their patios as early as Friday, with tables limited to four patrons at a time who must all be from the same household.

General outdoor gatherings are now allowed for up to 10 people, provided physical distancing can be maintained at all times. Essential retail can be open at 25 per cent capacity, and non-essential retail can reopen for in-person shopping with a capacity limit of 15 per cent.

Religious services and ceremonies can take place indoors or outdoors at 15 per cent capacities with masks and distancing. Outdoor sports training (with no games or practices allowed), outdoor fitness classes and personal training can take place with up to 10 people maximum.

Further recreational amenities are also reopening including day camps, overnight camping within Ontario Parks, outdoor horse racing without spectators, outdoor zoos, historic sites, botanical gardens, and outdoor pools.

The announcement comes on the same day that Ontario logs its lowest number of new daily COVID-19 cases since last September, with 525 new cases confirmed.
