A well-loved Hamilton spot known for vegan comfort food has shared their plans to close their doors later this year.
The Hearty Hooligan has been a fixture of the Crown Point neighbourhood at 292 Ottawa Street North for years, specializing in comfort eats that are 100 per cent plant-based served in a relaxed, fun, and inclusive setting.
Owner Staicha Kidd made it a key goal with The Hearty Hooligan to shift the public’s perception of vegan eating and prove that it’s a lot more than simple salads and smoothies. In fact, The Hearty Hooligan deals in dishes like pizza pockets, loaded nachos, mac & cheese burritos, and Philly cheesesteaks that are all free of animal products.
After first launching the business back in 2017, Kidd has shared the news that she plans to close The Hearty Hooligan on October 30th, 2025.
“I am ready to move on to something else,” wrote Kidd in a post on social media. “I want to pivot to something else and find another way to make a difference in this world with my one and only shot at life.”
Kidd emphasizes that the decision to bid farewell to The Hearty Hooligan is not due to any failings in the business itself. “I want you all to know we didn’t flop or go bankrupt – this was a choice I made over a year in advance,” she explains.
Locals have until the end of October to celebrate The Hearty Hooligan and their impact in Hamilton. Kidd also says that anyone interested in taking over the business can reach out to discuss.
