A popular Hamilton gem for shawarma and other Middle Eastern eats has permanently closed.
Afshar’s Shawarma & Grill was one of those “if you know, you know” food spots in Hamilton, a family-owned business operating for years out of an unassuming restaurant space at 234 King Street West.
Known for its satisfying shawarma as well as comfort dishes like falafel, kabobs, gyros, homemade soups, salads, dinner plates, and more, the restaurant quietly closed up shop just a few months ago, with Google now listing the business as ‘permanently closed.’
The space won’t be vacant for long, though: another comfort food spot, Tex-Mex chain Fat Bastard Burrito, will be taking over to open its third location in the Hamilton area, joining two existing ones in Dundas and Stoney Creek.
While another burrito spot is sure to be embraced, it’s sad to see a scrappy family-owned venture like Afshar’s Shawarma & Grill close up shop for good.
