Site-specific arts festival Frost Bites heats up in Hamilton this weekend

Live theatre, music, installation art, storytelling, audio-guided tour experiences, and so much more is heating up Hamilton this weekend as part of Frost Bites: an annual multi-arts festival that activates the city in unique new ways.

A wintertime branch of the Hamilton Fringe Festival, Frost Bites first launched as a site-specific theatre festival hosted within the Cotton Factory and continued to evolve ever since, activating spaces throughout Hamilton with locally-made art of all kinds.

This year’s iteration looks to be the biggest yet, with a head-spinning offering of performances, activities, workshops, and events taking place at Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre at 876 Cannon Street East; the Theatre Aquarius Arts Centre at 191 King William Street; and even on some HSR routes like the 03 Cannon and 01 King buses.

Local artists, companies, and collectives like Switchboard Theatre, Porch Light Theatre, Open Heart Arts, Afterlife Theatre, Saba Company, and Tommy Taylor are presenting striking new works with a social justice theme, presented in unconventional spaces for intimate audiences.

Surrounding those works are other exciting events from storytelling workshops to skating lessons to community dialogues to art classes and beyond.

Frost Bites runs daily from now until Monday, February 20th with jam-packed schedules to check out each day.
