A Six Nations restaurant near Hamilton known for its burgers has published a response following a destructive fire at their Ohsweken eatery.
Burger Barn – a popular spot for laidback fare like handmade burgers, chicken wings, breakfasts, and beyond – was victim of a fire that did significant damage to their eye-catching big red barn early in the morning on Monday, January 27th.
The fire has been treated as suspicious by local officials, especially after there were reports of a drive-by shooting at Burger Barn just a few days prior early in the morning on Saturday, January 25th.
With Burger Barn closed until further notice following this string of incidents, the restaurant shared a lengthy update on their social media.
“We have not yet received the Ontario Fire Marshall’s official report but sadly we can share with you at this time, that it was a heinous act of arson,” wrote Burger Barn owners Jason and Celeste Hill in a post.
“Intentionally destroying the family restaurant that we worked so hard to build from the ground up over the last 14 years is not only a truly disgusting scheme, but a cowardly one.”
In their message, Burger Barn extends their thanks to the Six Nations Fire Department and Haldimand County Fire Department for their efforts in extinguishing the fire quickly; the Six Nations Police Department for their ongoing work; and to the local community who has actively reached out in support.
The restaurant also urges anyone who may have information that could aid investigations to contact the Six Nations Police Department by calling 519-445-2811.
